Did You Know?

How much do you know about your own Bible? This piece is not intended to reflect on your lack of knowledge, but to give you the opportunity to examine your own understanding of God's word. God placed a special message in the Bible for you. 

The following questions will help you find answers to questions that are vital to your eternal welfare. Do not depend on any man to tell you the Bible answers to these questions. Do not take what this small tract says. Read the questions and then find the biblical references for yourself.

1. Is it necessary to read and study the Bible personally?

Read I Thessalonians 5:23; Colossians 4:16; I Timothy 4:13.

2. Can I understand it when I read it?

Read Ephesians 3:1-5; Isaiah 35:8.

3. What would hinder my understanding?

Read John 5:39,40; John 7:17.

4. What will an understanding of the Bible do for me?

Read John 8:32.

5. Should I expect a feeling to come over me?

Read Proverbs 12:14; Romans 10:17. (Note that hearing and not feeling produces faith.)

6. Where can I find what God expects of me?

Read John 3:16; John 8:24; Luke 13:3; Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16.

7. Will faith only justify me before God?

Read James 2:24.

8. What is repentance?

Read Matthew 21:28-31.

9. Does repentance mean I must quit everything that is wrong?

Read Acts 19:18-19.

10. Does baptism have anything to do with salvation?

Read Mark 16:16 again. Now read I Peter 3:21.

11. How is one baptized?

Read Romans 6:3-4 and Colossians 2:12.

12. Is baptism a work?

Read John 6:28-29 and Acts 10:34-35. (Note: baptism is not a work of man -- it is a work of God.)

13. What church should I join?

Answer: There is not a single verse in the Bible telling anyone to join any church.

14. Well, then how do I get into the church?

Read Acts 2:38-47.

15. If all saved people are added to the church, will one be lost who is out of the church?

Read Colossians 1:13-14, then read verse 18, now skip down to verse 24.

16. Christ is the head of the church. How many churches does He have?

Read Matthew 16:18 (notice singular “church”).

17. Is the church the same as the body of Christ?

Read Ephesians 1:22-23.

18. Is there more than one church that Jesus owns?

Read Ephesians 4:4 and Acts 20:28.

19. Once I am saved, can I ever again be lost?

Read I Corinthians 10:12 and Galatians 5:4. Now read Hebrews 6:1-4 and Hebrews 10:38-39.

20. As a Christian am I required to be present at the meetings of the church?

Read Hebrews 10:25 and Acts 2:42. Look up the word steadfast in a dictionary.

21. Am I required to take the Lord’s Supper every week?

Read Acts 20:7.

22. Am I required to give a tithe of all I own?

Read I Corinthians 16:1-4 and II Corinthians 9:6-7. (Note: Tithing is an Old Testament tax.)

23. What else am I required to do in worship?

Read Acts 2:42 again and then read Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16.

24. Can I continue some of the things I have been doing like drinking alcoholic beverages?

Read I Peter 4:1-5.

25. What must I do to be sure I am going to heaven when I die?

Read Matthew 10:22 and Revelation 2:10.

26. If I sin after I become a Christian, what must I do?

Read Acts 8:22 and I John 1:8-10.

27. How often should I pray?

Read Luke 18:1-3 and I Thessalonians 5:17.

28. Is it necessary to have authority from Christ for all that the church does?

Read Colossians 3:17 and Matthew 7:21-23.

29. What happens to a church that does not act under His authority?

Read II John 9-11 and read Revelation 2:1-5).

30. Is there a name I can look for that will point me to the right church?

Read Romans 16:16. (Note: Names are simple designations that show relationship -- the right name can be on the wrong church -- but the right church must have the right name.)

31. When will Jesus return?

Read Matthew 24:36.

32. Will all who claim to believe in Christ be saved?

Read Matthew 7:21-23 again and also James 2:19.

33. Will Christ be a king over the world when He comes back?

Read John 18:36-37 -- His kingdom is not of this world.

34. What is His kingdom?

Read Revelation 1:5-7 and 1 Peter 2:9 (Note that His church is a “royal” priesthood.)

35. Do I have to confess my sins to a priest?

Read I Timothy 2:5 and Hebrews 7:25.

36. Where is the headquarters of the church Jesus built?

Read Ephesians 1:22-23 again -- Christ is head of the church -- He is in heaven. His church has no earthly headquarters.
