Need a Push?

How long would you keep an automobile that had to be pushed everywhere it went? How much would it be worth to you? How much pleasure would you find in it? Let’s face it, you might keep an automobile that had to be pushed occasionally, but you wouldn’t keep one very long at all that could not be depended on, one that wouldn’t go whenever you wanted it to go. The Lord is no more pleased with one of His servants who continually has to be pushed than you would be with an automobile that continually has to be pushed. God wants people of initiative and fervency of spirit.

Paul encourages Christians us in Romans 12:11, “...Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord...” A man that has to be pushed continually in order to keep him in service and attending worship services is not devoted to the cause of Christ. Its understandable that a newborn babe in Christ, a young convert, might need to be pushed, but if one who has been a Christian for many years must still be pushed, he’s  not growing spiritually. He isn’t spiritually mature. Please let me ask a personal question here: “Are you a spiritually mature Christian?” If you are, then you’ve already made plans to always attend worship services with the saints.

If you haven’t already made plans to attend, what does it say about your spiritual maturity? If you must be pushed every step of the way, there’s strong indication that you may have lost sight of your goal - a home in heaven for all eternity. Let us keep our minds firmly fixed on our goal of obtaining eternal life. “Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ...” (1 Pet. 1:13).
